Emmi Jormalainen (Finland) is an artist, illustrator and graphic designer. She works with drawings, visual storytelling and printed artist books.
She uses mostly pencils and color pencils to create visual stories and enchanted atmospheres. In her drawings she mixes everyday life and fantasy. Her stories are often inspired by surrounding environment: culture, architecture, travels, quietness, nature, fauna and moments which slowly pass by.
Most of her illustrated books are silent books without text and stories are told only with images and means of visual storytelling. One of her recent works is a silent book ”Atlas Part 1: Islands” (2017) where she made drawings about visits to four different islands she loves: Taiwan, Yakushima (Japan), Iceland and Hillesoya (Norway).
